The Return by Mark Mustian (2000): Mystery novel about a reporter specializing in investigating supernatural phenomena who finds himself caught up in the unfolding story of a Brazilian women claiming to be the reincarnation of Christ.
I was at the library, looking for Mark’s latest, The Gendarme, and found The Return instead. Hoping that The Gendarme is available, once I finish this one.
A Deepness in the Sky by Vernor Vinge (1999): It’s the Qeng Ho and the Emergents, exploring the system of the On/Off star, discovering the Spiders, etc. Hugo winner for Best Novel in 2000.
Prequel to Vinge’s A Fire Upon the Deep (1992; also a Hugo winner), which I read about five or six years ago. At that time, I kept checking out A Deepness in the Sky from the library, hoping to find time to read it, and just kept getting distracted. Recently, while walking through a different library, spotted it again and decided the time had come.
Random walks through libraries are a constant source of frustration to books who thought I might be reading them next.
